About Morgantown

The energy of a land-grant university creates a diverse culture full of people from all over the world, farm-to-table food, unique art and music, and local small businesses. An already vibrant community coupled with an abundance of established outdoor recreation assets, Morgantown is an ideal outdoor town and a natural choice for the coalition’s pilot program.

Miles of hiking and biking trails, nearly 1,200 climbing routes and boulder problems, and 51 whitewater runs are mapped within only an hour of Morgantown’s city center. These nearby outdoor assets are enhanced by projects like the city’s recently established bike and pedestrian plan, the future addition of soft-surface trails with the awarded Trail Accelerator Grant from the International Mountain Bike Association, and the local Mon River Rail-Trail System, recently designated a Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s “Rail-Trail Hall of Fame.”
